Santorum, that’s the Joke!

February 24th, 2012

Been meaning to write about this sooner, but the howlers keep coming, so maybe it’s better to have waited a few days.  I’ve known for year’s that Rick Santorum’s views are motivated by his religious beliefs, even when they’re contradictory to reality and basic human decency.  I just didn’t realize he’d ever become so prominent on the national stage the media would cover him the way it has recently, and that he’d keep spouting off his wacky beliefs!  I mean…

Liberals are the anti-science ones.”  Or “Democrats are anti-science, not me.”

Bwaaahaaahaaa!  This coming from an anti-evolution creationist!  Science…that word doesn’t mean what Rick Santorum thinks it means.  He seems it means using technology to exploit resources, and he’s for that.  What a silly, misinformed or misleading guy.  I just hope enough Americans know what the word means and joins me in the laughing.

He has also asserted that global warming is based on “phony studies.”  That’s not true.  They’re real scientific studies, peer reviewed, and published in scientific journals.  That’s SCIENCE.  Denial is “political science” as he calls it.

He’s also been going after education.  He thinks everyone should be homeschooled, which is really a dodge to let everyone teach their kids religion in place of science in Santorum’s world.  I also think this is a silly idea just based on the idea of a parent basically being forced to stay home at teach.  Government mandate again from the annti-government GOP?  Also, even if we take this as a thinly veiled attempt to get the women to stay at home with the kids like back in the good old days, how many are actually qualified to teach their own kids the full range of K-12 subjects?  Even though teachers aren’t always as good as I’d like them to be, they’re trained and evaulated.

As for the universities, yeah, he’s gone after them, too.  They’re just nasty places that get people to think and lose their superstitions, I mean, experience a wide variety of challenging people and viewpoints that results in secular indoctrination.  Basically he wants the government to mandate they have a wider diversity of views, again likely meaning he wants his own personal, backward, reality-challenged superstitions to get a place in the marketplace of ideas that they rightly usually don’t.

He’s taken a page from Orwell’s 1984, pushing the big lie that he’s a pro-science intellectual who cares about education when that description is the exact opposite of the truth, and expecting people to believe it.  IIf enough folks do, then I guess I’ll have to cry.

In the meantime…LOL!
