Hotel Mauna Kea

December 11th, 2012

I’ve got some internal funding to do some videos promoting the department with an idea toward graduate student recruiting.  We’ll do some straightforward things like interviews with faculty and students, tours of the observatories, maybe some physics demos.  We want to show what it’s like here in Wyoming and that we’re friendly and enthusiastic about science.

What I would love to do, but is not so easy, is to create a viral video that doesn’t cast a bad light on us (as some viral videos do upon their subjects).  No “Fuck Me Neil DeGrasse Tyson” or “Ghost Girl in the Observatory.” Here’s an example of a great video that is what I’d love to have, at least for a target audience of astronomers and would-be astronomers:

(Nostalgic as I’ve observed there quite a few times myself.  It’s really gorgeous and strange.)

What do you think? Any ideas for Wyoming? I don’t think we quite have the talent to pull off a song like this, but we have talent.
