I think I forgot to link to this before, but Jonathan Strahan is soliciting for a hard sf anthology and you might provide your suggestions.

Wearable matchmaker to light up when a match is nearby.  I so had this idea 20 years ago in an early (and not so great sf story of mine).  Not going to be easy to catch on until there’s a more general application that uses cell phones, probably.

New still pictures from the Watchmen movie, some identical to panels from the comic.

IBM files patent for bullet-dodging bionic armor.  Cool!  This is what living long enough brings us!  The future is here!

Carbon output higher than used in models, climate change likely going to exceed predictions.  I hope this isn’t the case, but I think it’s more and more likely we’re going to be facing massive upheavals in our civilization and/or rolling the dice with massive geoengineering products to deal with the issue.

Shadow life on Earth? Weird and cool ideas here.

People vs. George Lucas.  I’m a little ‘meh’ on this one, but I’m interested in the idea of creators losing their creations to the public.  I mean, if J. K. Rowling went out and wrote a new novel about Harry Potter as an adult, becoming an alcoholic, having affairs with Ron and Hermoine, and abusing house elves, you know it would be printed and bought.  But the outrage would be massive, and I bet there would be death threats, boycotts, and more.

And speaking of which, some newspaper editors are being held in India for offending Islam.  This is outrageous to me, and makes me appreciate American freedoms (although they’re still too limited).  Tolerance is one thing, but tolerance of criticism is also critical.  I respect everyone’s right to have their own beliefs, but the day I have to respect those beliefs and refrain from criticizing them is the day I take my rifle and move into a cave in the hills.  Ideas should be debated, criticized, and accepted for what they are (and what they’re not).  Any belief that can’t stand up to some fair criticism isn’t worth keeping.  I know not everyone thinks like a scientist or is trained to be one like me, but it wouldn’t hurt, would it?
