Inside the Roddenberry Estate.  Video.  See the office and keepsakes of the Star Trek creator, and hear his son speak of the hope for more than tolerance in the future.

South Park does Watchmen. Video.

A new particle cometh.  This is why experiments need to be done.

Finding twin Earths is hard work! Maybe Bush missed his calling.  He found the Presidency hard work, but had twin girls.

The Hal Jordan Head Injury Project.

Roger Ebert “geeks out” over The Knowing.  Makes me want to see it.

Chris Mooney rips George Will a new one over his climate change lying.  Man, you know, I could have respect for conservatives if they deserved it, and I often find myself thinking folks like George Will must be smart and respectable because so many people say so, but he isn’t either.  He’s a political mouthpiece without a single original thought in his head, and also seems to lack the ability to reason.  Seriously.  If these are the reasons conservatives are skeptical about climate change, they’re idiots and need to fall on their bellies and grovel for forgiveness for their stupidity.  The truth is that when you take away these arguments, they will seek different ones because they are not interested in the truth, just being contrary for its own sake, or for some business bias, not for anything else.  The asshole should totally resign.  I can’t believe millions read him and watch him on TV if this in the nonsense he spouts.  It’s drivel, plain and simple.  Lies, or mistakes.  Either one.  He’s evil, incompetent, or both, and an educated technological society can afford neither.  Seriously, the man makes a lot of money repeating lies as if he had a brain and they were original thoughts.  It’s disgusting.  And he doesn’t even suck as much as a lot of others.  Man.

Ok, this was supposed to be a quick late-night entry, but I got incensed.  Sorry.

Cracked has 6 Supervillians who were actually okay guys.  Hmm, maybe, maybe not.  They were at least more morally ambiguous than the usual bank robber or murderer.

From Alom Saha via Brain Malow, Why is Science Important? 28 minute video.

Finally, saw this cool exhibit here in Porto Alegre, Brazil: The Human Body.  I understand it has been in the U.S. before this.  Yeah, the pictures there are the real thing.

This Creationism stuff never ceases to amaze me. I’m not american, so I can’t say I fully understand the ramifications of the debate in the USA - but seen from the outside, it’s really hard to understand how the very same nation that managed to send people on the Moon, accomplishing the 20th century’s most impressive techical achievement, also harbours anti-science braindead fanatics of the worst kind.

Heads in the sand. Some people lack intellectual integrity and put irrational beliefs first, and for some reason a lot of people find that reasonable, so it happens in the public sphere like this.

Some people, conservatives especially, think that loyalty is more important than being right. This issue for them is about being loyal to their religion and its beliefs, no matter how ridiculous, and they see it as a virtue.

fortunatelly, Brazil hasnt had anyone important preaching creationism yet (uh, in the last decades of course).

But I dont think that day is very far, considering the growing power of pentecostal evangelical churches in the country. (Rio already had a pentecostal bishop as governor)

Although the brazilian catholic church is idiotic in many matters (like in the raped 9 yr old girl case), it seems to accept evolution much better than pentecostal churches.
