Tardy Starlinks

September 16th, 2009

I meant to post last night, but there were database issues.  Sorry if the site was down if you tried to visit.  I should have another post later today, too, but let’s get some starlinks up now while everything is looking good.

CNN tells us that ebooks are catching on with readers.  It must be true.

The scoop for season 4 of heroes.  Lesbians mentioned.  Are lesbians the new sharks?  Do shows jump them?

Apparently you can never have too many superheroes, so sayeth Disney, new owner of Marvel.  As long as they bring back underoos, I can live with the takeover…

The FCC wants to reopen the investigation of Janet Jackson’s superbowl nipple.  Wasn’t that all Justin Timberlake did already?  Americans need to get over their fake outrage, and so does our government.  Nipple!  Scary!  Terrifying!  Let’s keep them from the babies!

This is a really good link.  When nature is freakier than science fiction.  It is.  I have one image that is going to give me nightmares.

Spike TV has their list of top ten white trash heroes.  I don’t know if Star Wars fans are going to like #1, but it is totally true.

Let’s balance out the white trash with the top ten African-American science fiction characters.  A lot of criticism of the choices on the site, and I agree that while they listed some good ones, they missed the boat on others.

There’s going to be a Harry Potter theme park.  I think I’ll go.

Apparently a new film about Darwin/Evolution can’t find a U.S. distributor.  There’s a claim that the topic is “too controversial” for Americans, but I doubt that’s the real reason.  It still sucks, however.

A captured comet becomes a new moon of Jupiter.  That’s seriously cool.

There’s a link between intelligence and curiosity.  Now you have to click this link to learn more, don’t you?  Otherwise you might be an idiot… (Actually I don’t think anyone coming here regularly can be anything but awesomely sharp and curious.)

One of the exo-planets found has been determined to be a terrestrial world.  Cool (hot, actually)!  CNN might tell us that we haven’t yet determined if there’s life there, however.

Astronaut piss lights up the sky! Seriously!  I love the world…although the stupid FCC will likely want to look into this.

A military robot that hops over 25 foot high walls.  More coolness.

Technology can give us new senses, like a sense of direction.  I’m thinking this would be a good topic for a longer post.

Some issues and changes with scientific peer review.  Interesting reading for me at least.

Finally, will the universe be the new religion? It’s better than alternatives, but I sort of hope not.  I’d love to see the word “religion” replaced with ethical system, personal philosophy, etc., rather than carrying around a term that labels the bearer as someone who believes in the supernatural without any decent supporting evidence.

The parasite in the fish’s mouth is truly horrific. I had seen it in Cracked before, which had an article about parasites :

I liked Islands of Adventure. Looks cool. I wonder if Universal is going to keep the Marvel Superheroes area now that Disney has bought Marvel.
