An Exceptional Fantasy Novel: The Name of the Wind

October 27th, 2009

OK, I’m a hard science fiction guy, and read more sf than fantasy.  I like to read fantasy on occasion and I wanted to share one I am really loving in a way that I haven’t loved a fantasy in a long time: The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.  It started a bit slow and didn’t feel quite polished to me at the start, and then the story locked in and I have had a hard time putting it down.  I wake up and want to immediately resume reading.  I don’t want to give away too much about it, but just wanted to recommend it as one of the best fantasies I’ve read in years.

I’m more of a hard SF guy too, but my wife is a fan of “The Name of the Wind” and moments before reading your blog post, she read me a bit from Patrick Rothfuss’ post: http://www.patrickrothfuss.com/blog/2009/10/everyone-hates-their-job-sometimes.html

    Maybe it was the timing…

I am not good at writing, but I like this post on fantasy.
