Busy today with a grant proposal and meetings with students. Wanted to sneak in quickly to share a few links.

The Prisoner was a wild and surreal BBC series about a spy who tries to leave his job and is then kidnapped and swept away to the Village where he is given a number: 6. Yes, I know! I almost mentioned that. On the same album they have a song about Frank Herbert’s Dune.

Some very useful advice from Eric Brown about writing. That old maxim that says write about what you know, is liable to be misunderstood. Did it mean you should keep to something based on or relating to personal experience? Or, can there be scope for the imagination if it’s grounded in some knowledge? I tend to follow the latter. Unfortunately in the UK there are very few publishers for sf - and likewise agents - so realistically you have no more than five chances to get the whole thing right.
So I’m guessing The Prisoner 09 will not be available in Britain for a long time. But can it be anywhere near as good as the orginal?
