First, astronomical things you can see in the sky this month, especially if you live somewhere like I do in Wyoming.
An older article about how no child left behind also means no child pushed forward. Most of our innovations, productivity, and bright ideas come from the so-called “gifted” — at least the ones who make the effort to excel. It’s more likely they will make that effort when they’re pushed and given opportunities. It’s a larger problem to catch everyone and bring everyone up to a minimum standard, but it is also vitally important to push our best and our brightest.
We know Health Ledger portrays the Joker in the new Batman movie, but check out who will be the villain in the third installment. You’d think you could trust a police commissioner, wouldn’t you?
The possibility of quantum imaging arises, taking clear pictures through fog and such. I’m going to have to think more deeply about this one. I also want to write something about the possibility of eavesdropping on quantum communications, which I had though impossible, but is apparently not.
And via Matt Staggs, Ben Bova talks about the importance of writing every day. I don’t do it myself, going long stretches sometimes between projects. When I start a project, however, I do indeed make it a point to write every day. It’s the only way to finish big projects and to keep the ideas fresh and story cohesive.
