Jurassic Crichton

July 24th, 2008

The post I did a few weeks back about Michael Crichton and his funny relationships with science and science fiction has, like the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, been resurrected from the dead.  Sometimes I’m on top of things and notice when my posts get picked up elsewhere, other times I’m busy and it takes a while.  I think it’s cool to get recycled at places with more readers as long as I get credited, even if it takes me a few days to notice.

Interesting recycle and discussion over at io9: Michael Crichton: Evil or Just a Crazy Luddite?

Phil Plat at Bad Astronomy has also just responded: Brotherton on Crichton

Now I eagerly await my terrible fate in Crichton’s next book.  Since one critic already took the child molester spot, I suppose the worst I can get is criminally insane serial killer, which isn’t so uncool after the Joker and Hannibal Lecter.

You know though, I can’t fault Crichton too much.  It shows he does care what others think.  It must be difficult to take the kind of criticism he does.  I mean, he deserves it for sure, but your average writer only has to deal with a handful of reviews.  Crichton, on the other hand, can quickly and easily find new scathing responses to him and his work on a daily basis, thanks to the genie of the internet that science has unleashed.  Maybe I’d be a Luddite, too.
