I just saw on TV that Michael Crichton has died following a private struggle with cancer.
For better or worse, one of my most popular posts ever is a criticism of Crichton for his anti-scientific tendencies. I stand by those criticisms still, although like most people I prefer not to speak ill of the dead, or at least the recently dead. [Fox News and its coverage of Kurt Vonnegut doesn't count as "most people."]
I would prefer to think of the instances when Michael Crichton’s work brought a sense of wonder about science and the world to millions of people.
