Folks,
This back and forth offensive and defensive comments are stupid and meaningless.
I'm BRAZILIAN. And I write that in capital letters. I have lived in the US in 4 different states. Loved them all.
US is super great. People is great. But I can see US is also not perfect.
Brazil is far away from being perfect. But I can tell you guys that US made me love Brazil more and more.
One thing that is impossible for people to understand is that THERE ARE DIFFERENCES!.
If you leave NY to spend sometime in the middle of nowhere in Illinois. Would you think it's amazing? No way. You would curse like hell. This flat landscaped corn country is interesting like San Francisco? No, Have I met great people there? Hell yes. Any stupid people? Oh yeah, a bunch. Do I care? No frigging way.
I came from a 100 thousand inhabitants city in central area of São Paulo state. No shopping mall and ONE single movie theater room. Yes it sucks. But in other hand we have more than 70 waterfalls, awesome wheater, great schools, good restaurants and both cool and stupid people.
In US I met stupid people like you can find anywhere in the world. Racists, neonazis, white, black, foreigners, etc.
For instance: I loved Chicago. Great? YES! Perfect? No! Taxi Cabs driven by some poor english noshowerforoneweek asian guy. Was he kind? No. Everything on the ride stink? Yes, big time. Has he done what he was supposed to do (taking me from spot A to spot B)? Yes. Great.
Do I hate pakistanis because of this guy? No.
I have been to Salvador, Bahia in June. Ask me if I liked. Of course not. Beautiful views? Oh yes! Poorness? HELL YEAH. Did it smell like piss? Yes. Would you come back? Maybe. For now, "No, thanks".
It's time for people leave their own imaginary perfect world. People should cope with what life brings to you and not the waiter or the AC technician guy does.
This is the real frigging life. If you want to get out of life alive, sorry.

Flavia, you're completely wrong. brazilians are completely laid back and retarded. I am born German and living in Brazil. This country DOES NOT WORK and NEVER WILL. We call the politicians BAD, but YOU BRAZILIANS ELECT THEM! I can't see how this will ever work if Brazilians dont learn to think.

Translate if you want!

"When the foregneirs arrived in Brazil they saw those locals just chilling at the beach, all naked, eating well from the trees, enjoying life, so they were pissed and all developed, so they came and tell the locals
- You must work, said the portuguese.
- Why? asked the brazilian.
- Because with working 20 hrs a day you will be able to develop like us.
- But why? asked the local again.
- Because you will make mad money and be rich because of that.
- Ok, but why?
- Because you will be able to be stable, and later on retire good and just lay down on the beach, laughing with friends, beautiful girls around, relax. This is why.
- I don´t get it, why go around like that, since this is exactly what I am doing right now…said the brazilian
He just missed the part, if you want to stay you are welcome, but if you will talk bs, please go home and to whateve you want!
Resume: Don´t be jealous, join us, we are friendly people, won´t hate u like u hate us ok!
C-ya!"

. . .

Remind me again how is Brazil considered to be a potential superpower?

Reading this reminds me of my previous room mate. That guy was one of the smartest people I know, but he was a little too original for my tastes though. Anyways I enjoyed reading this, thanks. Will give me something to discuss when I see him.

Well, my trusted slingbox worked well, until a few weeks ago. A powersurge knocked out the Speedy modem and ever since it has stopped working - message "no network". Does anyone know of a place where this can be repaired - in Brazil obviamente. Thx :)

Barack Obama's book, "The Audacity of Hope," shows a appealing title. It has an idea of bravery mixed with full confidence. There's nothing Pollyanna regarding this. I will possibly not support every little thing he tells, but he's our president, and then for me, he inspires trust. That may do more for a country than any volume of backroom deals. Hope gives us energy, and energy sustains us through trying times. Boy, we've had them. I'm from West Texas, and I did not vote for Bush. When McCain ran against Obama, I used to be a citizen of Arizona, but I gave audacious hope a chance. The fight for progress and laying the foundations of prosperity isn't over. I have come across the quips of those that don't think Obama is able to do it. But step back a moment. Would anyone have all of us fail simply to tarnish the star of an incumbent for whom they did not vote? Attempting to keep our priorities straight, let's work together with this president and build our future.

Well, Brazil sure has its problems and its people sure as hell is stupid sometimes but I do feel offended by your comment, vic. Just talking bad about something makes you feel ignorant in regarding of something that might be good about the country, or the people, or whatever you've been whining abt. Sure, there are a lot of problems as like an incipient government, and people here don't do a shit to change that, and in subways they move like horses and not like people, with no education at all - but before anything, you should really study the history of a contry before say anything. There's motives, there's rational debating, there's something more substancial than just "this place sucks and I've seen such patheticness!" It's just like an outsider offending the bad ways of YOUR country and its people. I'm positive you wouldn't like that either.
