There’s been a lot of requests for advice in the comments here. I give my general advice above. I am unfamiliar with the school systems outside of the United States and it is difficult for me to provide specific advice. I might do a post in the future about foreign students applying to college or graduate school in the United States, so look for that. Good luck to all and follow your passion!

There’s no telling what will happen to this proposed budget once it hits congress. Republicans are really in the mood to shrink the government. On the other hand, we keep hearing reports about how the U.S. is falling behind other countries. I expect things will end up much different than the proposed budget, but haven’t a clue as to what to predict.

in other news, the woolly mammoth video was debunked by the original author of the river video. He is a professional photographer who filmed Siberia wildlife.

his video showing a river WITHOUT any animal crossing it, was copied without his permission, and then a CGI wolly mammoth was added and the image was blured and shaken, so you cant properly see the details of the CGI

Yes, Zach, I see you on the spreadsheet. We’re starting to review applications now. Hang in there if you don’t get an initial offer — we got over a hundred applications for 5-6 spots. Most of the programs are the same, with a pool of several hundred people applying to a subset of 20 or so programs. A significant fraction do eventually find an REU program, and the odds are much better than 5 percent overall.
