Well, to be fair, this is really about current public perceptions. Nanotech is already all around us, but nothing like the "gray goo" threat level of science fiction. Not yet. That's probably not even on the radar for the general public. But it's probably at the level of magic and misunderstanding, like genetically modified foods. GM food became "Frankenfood" very quickly with heavy handed corporations not being PR savvy enough. Where will nano go?
